AI YOUTH LABProject Academy

FAQ

Questions parents ask us

Straight answers — including the ones where the honest answer is 'no'.

Is this a coding class?

Not only coding. AI Youth Lab combines AI literacy, prompt thinking, creative projects, research, design, English presentation, and AI-assisted building. Coding is one tool among several — the goal is a student who can think with AI and ship real work.

Does my child need coding experience?

The Junior Creator Track (ages 9–11) requires no coding experience at all. The AI Builder Track (ages 12–15) suits students with stronger technical interest, but prior coding is helpful rather than required.

Why is the program 8 weeks? Can we try a single class first?

Meaningful AI projects take time to learn, build, get feedback on, and present. We deliberately don't offer short trial classes — the value of the program is the finished project and the growth it takes to get there. Two things replace the trial class: talk to an admissions advisor on WeChat or WhatsApp with any question, and our first-week money-back guarantee — if it's not a fit after week 1, you get a full refund.

Is the class taught in English?

Yes. English is the primary teaching language. Chinese and Korean support may be available depending on the cohort — indicate your preference in the application.

Who are the mentors?

Mentors include AI engineers, researchers, and product experts with experience at leading AI and technology companies in the US. They participate in their personal capacity; company backgrounds are shown for identification only.

What level of English does my child need?

Basic English comprehension is required — students should be able to follow instructions and express simple ideas in English. The program itself is designed to build technical English confidence week by week.

Will my child get a certificate?

Yes. Students who complete the program and present a final project receive a certificate of completion and, with parent permission, a shareable personal project page.

Is this safe for children?

Yes. The program emphasizes responsible AI use, fact-checking, privacy, and academic integrity, with all AI tool use guided by teachers. We never encourage AI-written homework, we don't collect unnecessary personal data, and student work is only published with parent permission. See our Child Safety & AI Use Policy.

Do you help with competitions or school applications?

The core program focuses on AI project building. Advanced students may apply for 1:1 Project Mentorship for portfolio- or competition-oriented projects.

Do you guarantee results?

No — and we'd encourage skepticism of anyone who does. We do not guarantee awards, admissions outcomes, or grades. We focus on high-quality instruction, real project guidance, and authentic student work.

What equipment does my child need?

A laptop or desktop computer (not a tablet), a stable internet connection, and a quiet place to join live sessions. We'll guide account setup for all tools during onboarding.

Do we need to buy ChatGPT Plus or other AI subscriptions?

No. Premium access to the leading AI models — ChatGPT Plus, Claude Pro, image generation credits, and coding tools — is provisioned by us for the entire program, managed with classroom guardrails, and included in tuition. Families buy nothing extra.

What time are the live sessions?

Live classes run 2 hours every day, 6:00–8:00 pm Beijing time — that's 7:00–9:00 pm in Seoul and 6:00–8:00 pm in Singapore, Hong Kong, and Taipei. The daily rhythm is deliberate: consistent practice is how skills compound in 8 weeks.

What if my child misses a class?

Every session is recorded and available within 24 hours, and instructors hold weekly catch-up office hours. That said, the cohort works best live — we ask families to protect the daily class time as far as possible.

What is the Silicon Valley immersion in weeks 9–12?

An optional four-week on-site program in the San Francisco Bay Area for cohort graduates: a daily project studio, guided visits to tech campuses and universities like Stanford and UC Berkeley, in-person mentor workshops, and a live final showcase. Tuition is $0 for graduates; families arrange and cover travel, visas, lodging, and insurance. We issue invitation letters immediately upon enrollment to support B1/B2 visa applications, and our visa coordinator guides families through the paperwork. Seats are limited and confirmed during admissions.

What is your refund policy?

Simple: if the program isn't the right fit after the first week of classes, tell us before week 2 begins and we refund your tuition in full. No forms, no friction. After that, refunds are pro-rated for documented emergencies — details are in your enrollment agreement.
